Initiated at the Chicago Students Conference last winter, mobilization of American undergraduates into a National Students Organization representing over 350 colleges neared a climax last night, when the Student Council announced that it will choose three men next week to represent the College at a regional meeting of the Continuations Committee to be held here May 3 and 4.
The Council has invited all college organizations to submit names of interested and qualified members, and is accepting self-nominated candidates as well. After screening the nominees in personal interviews Wednesday evening the Council will choose the trio of delegates.
Sixteen New England colleges and youth organizations will attend the regional meeting, which is a preliminary to a nation-wide constitutional convention scheduled for late summer in Madison, Wisconsin. The same delegation will represent the College at both meetings.
Two Million Represented
The long-heralded National Students Organization, representing over two million U. S. undergraduates as well as many youth groups, will be formally established at the Madison convention, which will draw up and ratify the constitution of the new body.
The nature of the summer meeting requires that men submitting their names possess some knowledge of parliamentary procedure, the Council announced. Interest in the National Students Organization will be the second qualifying factor for prospective delegates.
Unofficial observers who wish to attend either or both of the meetings may do so by obtaining Council approval in advance. Expenses, however, will be paid for members of the College delegation only, the Council announced.
