Fall Finale Presents Zimmerman, Binger

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Experts in the fields of social relations, sociology, and psychiatry will analyze the "breakdown of the American fandly system" in the final fall meeting of the Law School Forum at 8 p.m. tonight in Rindge Tech Auditorium.

Participants in a discussion of "What's Happening to Our Family System?" will include: Carle C. Zimmerman, associate professor of Sociology, Joseph K. Folsom, professor at Vassar College, and Dr. Carl Binger '10. Clyde Kluckhohn, professor of Anthropology, will moderate.

Current Problem

The three speakers are expected to present varying views of the cause of the present tendency toward breakdown in the family group. Some authorities say that this disintegration will continue to become more acute, and others believe that it is merely due to the temporarily unsettled conditions of the day and will disappear in time.

Zimmerman will interpret the direction of social change as related to a gradual breakdown of the family system. Professor Folsom expressed a totally different opinion in the July 26 issue of Life when he stated that the direction of the family system is toward greater adaptability in a scientific age.

Binger Plans Subjective Analysis

Dr. Binger will emphasize the importance of subjective analyses in approaching the problem. A graduate of the Harvard Medical School, he won the 1945 Norton Award for his book "The Doctor's Job."

As usual, part of the proceedings will be broadcast over Station WHDH.
