Lowell Textbooks Will Go to Poland

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Information on the "ways of the West" will soon penetrate Poland's war-depleted universities as the result of a Lowell House book collection campaign starting today.

Led by a committee of 20 which will canvass every Lowell entry in an effort to reach a goal of "a book from each man," the drive spearheads next week's text and clothing collection for the Salzburg Seminar and Western European Universities.

Enlightening students in Europe's "Russian orbit" an America's heritage and institutions is the primary purpose of the Lowell House shipment, Robert M. Evans '46, and Alfred M. Goodlee '50, founders of the committee, explained last night.

Poland's Universities of Warsaw and

of Madame Curie-Sklodovaks will be beneficiaries, and Evans hopes that these schools will find some clothing in among the cartoons of Lowell-donated books.

Inspiration for the drive came from newspaper articles last fall, which described the difficulties faced by instructors who attempt to teach text-less American literature and other courses in Eastern Europe
