PBH Membership Hits 550

Phillips Brooks House looked over its membership rolls yesterday and announced that this season a total of 550 men are either members or associates.

The figure--secured this fall without any formal membership drive--runs well ahead of last year's total. 1947 was the only year since before the war to produce a comparably high PBH membership.

The 1949 figure of 550 is broken down into 282 full members and 268 associates. An associate is a man who has not yet worked ten hours on any PBH project.

Biggest of Brooks House's nine operating units is the Social Service Committee, which boasts 245 members and associates who make weekly visits to Boston settlement houses and boys' clubs.

Next in order are the Undergraduate Faculty (tutors) with 129 men, and the Speakers and Entertainers Committee, with 75 men. Other PBH committees this year include the Ticket Agency, the Brooks House Committee (primarily for freshmen), the Library Committee, and the Office Committee.
