Spring is here to stay, and so is seven ninths of the batting order of the freshman baseball team. Only the corners of the outer prairies remain unsettled as the yardling nine takes on Brown at 1:30 p.m. today on Soldiers Field.
But Coach Dolph Samborski hasn't lost much sleep in deciding who's going to play in the outfield. The decision is only in choosing the best men from a talented batch.
Today Bobby Thompson draws the right-field assignment and Jack Donelan returns to the mound, with Buster Connolly patrolling left. Ben Akillian maintains his vise-like grip on the center field position.
The infield quarter to Tim Wise, Win Carduff, Hank Young, and Bill Hickey (reading from first to third) has amply satisfied Coach Samborski's desire for four men who can hit, field, and throw, and he will stick with this group until proven wrong.
The batting order:
Carduff 2b
Young ss
Akillian cf
Donelan p
Hickey 3b
Thompson rf
Wise 1b
Connolly 1f
