Hanford's Illness Requires Him to Quit Gov Courses

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A. Chester Hanford, professor of Government and former dean of the College, has been forced by illness to give up his teaching duties for the rest of this term, it was learned last night.

Hanford has been sick for some time, and was told by his doctor this week that he should not continue his teaching at present.

The only undergraduate course he was giving this term was Government 140a, State Government. That course is expected to continue, but the new instructor has not yet been chosen.

Rupert Emerson '22, professor of Government and chairman af the department, hopes to have a replacement picked in time for tomorrow's lecture. The full department met with Provost Buck yesterday afternoon to discuss the problem.

"This is a bad time of year to find a replacement," Emerson said. "The staff men all have their own commitments."

Hanford's only other course this term was a Public Administration seminar which he was conducting with Morris B. Lambie, professor of Government. Lambie said last night that he will continue with the course alone for the time being, but does not know who will take over Hanford's duties later on.
