Good goal-tending helped the freshman hockey team to a 3 to 0 victory over Melrose High School in the arena yesterday afternoon. Goalies George Anderson and Johnny Marshall jointly made 25 saves to shut out last year's New England high school champions.

After a tight, closely-fought first period, Jimmy Colt made a screen shot to score the first Crimson goal at 4:19 of the second period. "Woodpecker" Wood passed to Job Bray to set up the second tally for the home team at 9:14 of the third period. Three minutes later, Bray raised a long shot from the blue line, and Wood deflected the puck into the nets for the last goal of the game.

Since each member scored once, the Crimson line of Colt, Bray, and Wood seemed the superior on offense, while the Patton, Clasby, Horween combination shone on defense. Individually outstanding were Melrose's Bobby Marsolats, rated last year as one of the stronger players in the Greater Boston League, and the home team's rugged defenseman Jeff Coolidge.

The summary. HARVARD  MELROSE H. S. Marshall  g  Whynot Coolidge  rd  Kennifie Arnold  id  Hennigar Horween  rw  Kelley Clasby  c  Cicoria Patton  lw  Lee
