Yardling Five Meets M.I.T. In Season Opener Tonight

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

When Coach Floyd Wilson sent his freshman basketball squad into last year's opener, he had a fast, sure, accurate five and he know it. But when his '55 quintet takes the floor tonight at the M.I.T. gymnasium, after only four weeks of practice, Wilson will be measuring an unknown quantity.

Although he has already named his starting line-up, Wilson will substitute frequently with ten players tonight. This contrasts sharply with last year's set-up, when the coach had named his starting five after only one week of practice.

The '55 squad is a tall one, averaging six-two, with Reger Bulger at five-ten the smallest man. Bulger plays at defensive guard, has a style similar to Ed Krinsky of last year's quintet. He has probably the best set shot on the team.

No Pivot Man

The other four starters are all over six feet, but none of them is big enough to become pivot man. For this reason, Wilson has decided to play all of them on the outside, with all four able to cut down the middle. Dick Manning will play at the center slot, while Harry Sacks and Paul Shaw will team at the forwards. Rolin Perry will be at the other guard.

Accurate Shot

Shaw is the most accurate shot on the squad from inside the foul circle, and Wilson expects him to do a good deal of the scoring. In these men, Wilson has four capable rebounders, although Manning is the best off the boards.

Behind this line-up, Wilson has five other men: Den Myers, tallest man on the team at six-four, Lee Hurd, Ken Woodman, Larry Flaxman, and Burt Berson.
