Commuter Quintet Beats Winthrop; Kirkland B Team Stays Unbeaten

Dudley tripped up Winthrop, 52 to 44, in the only action last night in the House "A" basketball league. Nine field goals and a foul by Dudley's Hoffman was the high scorer for the evening. Bob Conte of the Commuters and Stan Johnson of the Puritans each tossed in 14 points.

In the "B" League games, Kirkland's undefeated five topped Lowell by parlaying a 10 to 7 lead at the half into a 28 to 23 final count. Steve Moore led the winners' second half splurge with 10 points, while Jeff Watkins had six for Lowell.

Eliot and Adams fought down to the wire in a tight game with Tom Petschek's last-second basket winning the game for the Elephants, 34 to 33. Winthrop took its "B" contest with Dudley by a 41 to 27 score.

Matthews South, last year's champion, dropped its first game in the new tournament to Matthews North, 13 to 11. In other games in the National League, Thayer South beat Straus South, 27 to 19; Thayer Middle edged Mower, 31 to 27; and Holworthy whipped Hollis, 28 to 19. In the American League, Lionel beat Weld North, 22 to 20; Straus North forfeited to Weld South; and Stoughton won over Thayer North, 33 to 19.

In House squash, Eliot beat Winthrop, 3 to 2.
