The rugby season begins at Soldiers Field at 3 p.m. this afternoon, when the Crimson varsity opens its fall schedule against the crew of H.M.S. Bunghead Bay, now docked in Boston Harbor.
Neither team is in top condition for the match, as the British sailors just landed, and Harvard has had but four practices since the vacation.
This year will mark Tom Calhoun's fifth as a player and second as coach of the Crimson club. He will start at wing forward, where the team will be without the services of Jim Callahan and Johnny Beer, both of whom are playing soccer this fall. Also among the missing is football player Arnie Horween.
The varsity forward line boasts three heavy and experienced stars in Peter Hager, Whitey Black, and Rocky Stone. Veteran backfield men include Bill Fuller, Pat Parker, and Jack Macrae.
