Still hunting for their initial win, and this time underdogs, the Crimson soccer players take the field again at 3:45 this afternoon behind the Business School against Tufts. The Jumbos are favored, especially after Harvard's first game showing last Saturday, a 2 to 1 loss to Williams.
Crimson coach Bruce Munro was very disappointed at the team's performance at Williamstown. "We hung brack and didn't beat them to the ball," he said. "Williams won primarily because it was more aggressive. We were loafing, especially in the first half."
Tough Game
He expects a tough game today, too. "Tufts beat us 4 to 1 last year, and they have practically the same team back," he stated. "We have lots of depth, which I will use until I find players who will hustle. We are a slow starting outfit anyway, but there may be lots of sophomores in there if the 'first' team doesn't show more aggressiveness," he concluded.
The Crimson is working under the handicap of an injury to Berk Johnson, starting left outside for three seasons. Johnson was kicked on the leg Saturday and is currently on crutches. Playing in his place will be Juan Vollenweider, substitute wing, or Dana Getchell, who started at halfback against Williams but has played in the line previously. The other outside will be either Win Knowlton or Steve Joyce, while the insides will be either Mary Weiss and Johnny Beer or Frank Davies and George Baker. Maurice Toro is center forward.
Munro was disappointed in the halfback line last week. Today, Craig Zane will get the starting nod again because of his good showing Saturday. "He was outstanding because he was the only one with any get up and go," Munro said.
The other halfbacks are Rusty McIntosh, a substitute last week, and either Jim Callahan, Ernie Young, or Jack Whiting. Saturday's starters, Alex Haegler and Getchell, along with Juan Rodriguez, and Bobby Dean, will also play.
Captain Charley Ufford and Bob Sobel will be starting fullbacks, backed by Lou Tiger and Charley Platt. Rog Taylor and Pete Briggs will share the goal-tending.
