"If we play our best game and Columbia is off its form, we have a fighting chance to beat them," varsity basketball coach Norm Shepard said yesterday. The Crimson meets the Lions at 8:30 p.m. tonight in the I.A.B.
The varsity, still looking for its first Eastern Intercollegiate Basketball League victory, will be playing a team which has defeated it once already this year, 68 to 51, in New York. Columbia will also be reinforced tonight by Jack MoMnas their high scorer last season who missed the two teams' first meeting because of ineligibility.
The Crimson also will present new faces in its starting lineup-Ed Caondon and Ed Krinsky will replace Bill Hickey and Captain John Stevenson, who played the first game against Columbia. Condon at guard and Krinsky at forward have started the varsity's last three games, together with center Dick Lionette, forward Gerry Murphy, and guard Bill Dennis. This lineup, however is the same that started in the 69 to 44 loss to Cornell Wednesday.
Ed Blodnick and Forrest Hansen, both of whom played will against Cornell Wednesday night, will also see some action. Hansen came home from Ithaca on crutches of an ankle injury, but he reported to practice yesterday in good shape.
The Yardlings will play the Northeastern freshmen in the preliminary game at 6:45 p.m. The home team will be after its ninth win and its eighth in a row. Ken Woodman will replace the absent Roger Bulger at one starting guard position but the rest of the lineup will remain the same.
