British Armed Forces Enlarge Draft Quotas

An universal military training is being debated in Congress, a British Government White Paper declared yesterday that an additional 50,000 Britons will be called upon to enroll in the already swollen ranks of the British armed forces during the next year.

Under the new program, young man will be called up at the age of 18 instead of the present 18 years and three months. In order to facilitate the enlarged draft quotas, there will be five registrations, instead of the usual four per year.

The increased draft coincides with greatly enlarged production of arms scheduled for 1952-53. Appropriation for arms production and research are not at 650,000,000 pounds, two-and-a-half times the totals of two years ago.
