Many returning Dunster and Winthrop men will find their suites have sprouted new fire doors.
During the summer, some 15 new fire doors were cut into the walls of Winthrop, and about the same number in Dunster. Lowell also got two or three new exists.
The reason, according to Cecil A. Roberts, superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, is to provide every suite with two means of egress--the main door and a fire door.
Roberts said the new doors have been planned for "some time."
"We make an inspection of all the buildings each year," Roberts said. "We decided to put in fire doors quite a while back, and this summer was the date set for installation."
Work was also begun on installation of fire alarms and emergency lighting in Hollis, Holworthy, Matthews, and Stoughton Halls.
