At least five seniors have a chance to "get a firm toe-hold on the educational ladder; to work among the Tlingit Indians, and to enjoy pleasant social intellectual companionship with people of superior intellect," the University of South East Alaska announced yesterday.
The new university, located in Kake, will open officially next fall. It is handing out scholarships and instructorships to men and women with A.B. degrees. At present, Kake has a population of 450.
As an added inducement the school is willing to pay recreation fees.
"Bring your own gun for duck hunting, shrimp fishing, crabbing, trolling for King Salmon, jigging for halibut, skiing, hiking, and walking," Rosemary Reilly-Baughm, the school's admissions director, said.
