An overnight glow of happiness seems to have uplifted the proponents of college hockey in this area, with the announcement that Governor Christian A. Herter has asked the legislature to authorize purchase of the Boston Arena.
John W. Watson '22, who previously had offered the city $100,000 if they purchased the Arena and named it after his brother, a former Crimson sports star, was quoted as saying he saw no reason why the new plans should not fit in with his.
And authorities indicated that the picture, with Herter's support, had become decidedly more favorable. Action will take place soon on a bill now pending in the House, authorizing the Metropolitan District Commission to purchase an arena for use by local schools and colleges.

The arena, long used by Crimson hockey teams for practice, and site of important games, is at present under option to a group of New York businessmen. It is understood, however, that the business men may well be willing to turn over the property immediately to the M.D.C., or perhaps to waive the option.
The city, through Mayor John B. Hynes, has been unwilling to buy the property mainly because it feared upkeep costs of an estimated $100,000 per year.
A larger M.D.C. budget will overcome this obstacle, however, providing as well a proportional division of expenses.
