Cornell Replaces Colgate on 1954 Football Schedule

Cornell will replace Colgate on the Crimson's eight game 1954 football schedule, it was learned yesterday.

At the same time it was learned that the University of Pennsylvania will probably not play the Crimson until 1956.

The other newcomer on a schedule that probably will have seven home games, is the University of Massachusetts, which will open the 1954 season in the Stadium.

Davidson is the only other team on this year's slate which will be dropped. Ohio University, which played the Crimson in this year's opener, will play here again, as part of its Sesquicentennial celebration.

Columbia, Yale in Stadium

The Cornell game will probably be played in Cambridge. It makes an appearance on the Crimson schedule after a two year lapse. The last time the teams met, Cornell won at Ithaca.

Columbia will play the Crimson here, as will Yale, Brown, and Dartmouth.

The only away game next year will be Princeton.

Last year Davidson opened a two year rivalry with the Crimson here. The Wildcats lost, 35 to 26, last year. They play here next Saturday.

In its two games here Colgate lost both times by extra points. The first time the score was 21 to 20, while two weeks ago the Crimson won, 28 to 26.

This year--with six home games and two away games--is the first season in several years that the varsity has played only eight times. Up to now, policy has called for nine each year.

Washington of St. Louis, which was shut out here last year, was dropped from the schedule after one year.
