The Army has recommended that draft calls be raised to about 35,000 a month starting in January, a Washington spokesman said yesterday.
The recommendation is now on the desk of Assistant Defense Secretary John A. Hannah. Hannah, Defense Department manpower specialist, expects to reach a decision on the proposal within the next few weeks.
It is expected however, that he will approve the request.
Draft calls have been near 23,000 monthly since July. It was originally believed that they would stay at that rate until July, 1954, when they would be raised to 45,000 a month.
The big jump next year comes from the heavy turnover of Army personnel every other year due to the two-year draft term.
