Cambridge Increases Patrolmen on Beat

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Superiority of the "flatfeet" will be reaffirmed starting next week when the Cambridge police force increases the number of "cops on the beat" from 13 to 23.

Simultaneously, motorized routes will be reduced from eight to five. Acting Police Chief Patrick J. McCarthy announced the change yesterday, following a City Council decision.

Patrol routes became completely mechanized 20 years ago. The 13 beats were instituted two years ago, following an increase in the crime rate.
