Two injury-riddled Crimson track teams will meet Brown at 3 p.m. today at Briggs Cage in what may be the closest meets so far this season.
The Crimson varsity will be without the services of four-event man Bob Rittenberg, who bruised his foot badly when he hit a hurdle in the B.A.A. games last Saturday. Bob Twitchell, star hurdler and dash man for the past three years, will not be running, while dash man Pete Coker pulled a muscle, and milor Hubie Maguire lost his edge since exam period.
Yardlings Weak Also
At Wilson's Yardlings will have their troubles also today. Their two big men, Dave Alpers and Al Wills, may be out of the meet; Alpers has a leg injury, and Wills, a bad cold.
Brown rolls in today as a big question mark. Since this will be the opening meet for both its varsity and freshman squads. But one of its few tried performers this season has earned himself the name of the best miler in the Ivy League. Walt Molineux, who ran second to Fred Dwyer in the Wanamaker Mile, will be entered in the 1,000 mile, and perhaps the 2-mile run.
His times have varied from around 4:09 to the 4:40's during the season, but with little competition and the relatively slow Briggs Cage track, he will be lucky to break 4:25 today.
As for the rest of the Bruin varsity, Art Cochran looked good when he took a second in the New England A.A.U meet last week in the 600, and Frank Reed excise in the distance runs. Ed Donaldson is Brown's only top-flight sprinter. Their quarter-miler, Gene Whitlock, was ruled ineligible last week.
Have to Take up Slack
Coach Bill McCurdy will be looking for the fourth consecutive win for his varsity, but he stated, "It all depends on what our second and third string runners can do. They've got to take up the slack for our injured mon."
