The varsity basketball team will be one of eight quintets playing in a special New England Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament at Dartmouth next winter, it was announced earlier in the week.
The Big Green is host to the tourney, which will be held on December 28-30.
Other participating teams are Amherst, Brown, Colby, University of Connecticut, Springfield, and Dartmouth. The varsity beat the Big Green here last season, but lost the return match. It toppled Brown here also, with a late surge. UConn always has a strong team; last season it was one of the best in the East.
Each team will play three times during the tournament. The program will include two afternoon and two night games each day. The tournament was originally scheduled as an annual affair--to be rotated by the participating colleges. But no plans for future years have been formulated yet.
Last Christmas vacation the Crimson went West, losing all its games by large margins to Pittsburgh, Washington of St. Louis, and the University of Nebraska. Two years ago it also made a Western jaunt.
