Varsity Eleven Faces Green Without Tice, Meyer in Line

Although tackle Dick Koch scrimmaged for the first time in two weeks yesterday afternoon, the varsity football line squad was at its most depleted state to date because of Saturday's injuries to tackle Orville Tice and center Jan Meyer.

Tice, whom Coach Lloyd Jordan calls "the key guy in our offensive mechanism," re-injured his ankle and will be out indefinitely, while the rapidly improving starter, Meyer, will miss at least two to three weeks with a bad back. Bill Frate will continue to play the inside tackle in place of Tice, Koch, and outside tackle, will back up John Maher, who played brilliantly against Cornell and Columbia.

Replacing Meyer will be Art Painter and Dave Bodiker. Painter is a junior, who worked at fullback as a freshman and was ineligible last year. This thumping tackles were a highlight of Saturday's game with Columbia. Also a junior, Bodiker missed much of last season and spent part of his limited time with the squad at end. Behind these two at center is sophomore Dick Holzschuh.

Two other men, wingback Bob Cowles and end George Clark, did not participate in yesterday's drill, but both will be ready today or tomorrow. The emphasis in yesterday's session was on pass defense, as the varsity worked on schemes to stop Dartmouth quarterback Bill Beagle, who hit on 24 of 26 against Colgate Saturday.

Out once again yesterday, but not running at full speed, were backs Dexter Lewis and Jim Joslin.
