Radcliffe's abbreviated "Give Days" for the Community Service Fund Drive will begin today on the 'Cliffe campus.
Previously, the Fund Drive was a week long, but this year's "Give Days" will last for only two days. The Charities' sponsors feel a concentrated two-day-appeal will be effective in overcoming Radcliffe's "traditional apathy" toward combined charities.
Although student contributions have been poor in the past, last year's 'Cliffe donation, with only 49 per cent of Radcliffe contributing, was the lowest of the Seven College Conference. Some of the colleges in the conference have compulsory contributions, however.
Personal Solicitation
Joan Friendly '56, Co-Chairman of this year's Fund Drive, said the aim of the Drive is 100 per cent dormitory giving. To ensure this, she said, each girl will be personally solicited.
For the first time, Phillips Brooks House can benefit from the Drive. The Student Council decided to make PBH eligible, since Radcliffe is now affiliated with the group.
The other charities which receive funds from the Drive are: Kobi College in Japan; The American Friends Service Committee; The World University Service; The National Scholarship Service and Fund for Negro Students; and the Red Feather.
Harvard's Combined Charities drive, usually held in the fall also, will be run in the spring this year--when undergraduates figure to have less football-weekend expenses and more money.
