Democratic Senator Paul Douglas held a heavy lead over his Republican opponent Joseph Meek early this morning. Douglas charged that Republican precinct leaders were holding out ballots in an attempt at last-minute manipulation and demanded FBI intercession.

California

Incumbent Republican Senator Kuchel led his opponent Yorty by more than 59,000 votes early this morning and seemed sure of election.

New Jersey

Democratic candidate Howell held 8,000-vote lead and claimed victory over Republican Clifford Case early this morning, but Republicans talked of demanding a recount.

Kentucky

Democratic ex-Vice-President Alben Barkley had won a strong victory over Republican incumbent Senator Cooper.

Iowa

Republican candidate Tom Martin was counted victor over incumbent Democratic Senator Guy Gillette with a lead of more than 24,000 votes and 76 percent of the returns in.

Nevada

Democratic candidate Bible defeated Republican incumbent Brown by about 500 votes in very light voting.

Delaware

Democratic incumbent Senator Frear defeated his Republican rival Warburton by more than 15,000 votes.

Michigan

Incumbent Republican Senator Homer Ferguson pulled ahead of Democratic candidate McNamara to gain a lead of about 70,000 votes early this morning, but a late McNamara surge was seen probable.

New Mexico

Democratic candidate Anderson defeated Republican Mechen, according to late returns.

Oregon

Republican candidate Cordon was leading his Democratic rival Neuberger, according to late returns, and seemed assured of victory.

Montana

In a last-minute switch, Republican candidate Dewart pulled ahead of Democratic incumbent Senator Murray with three fourths of the ballots in. Murray had held the lead all evening.

Minnesota

Incumbent Democratic Senator Hubert Humphries defeated Republican candidate Bjornson by a clear margin.

Colorado

Republican candidate Allot defeated the Democrat's Carrol. Carrol conceded just after 4 a.m., Boston time.

Wyoming

Democratic incumbent Senator O'Mahoney still held a lead of about 1000 votes over Republican candidate Harrison early this morning, with substantial returns still out.

Ohio

Late Hamilton County returns pushed Republican candidate George Bender ahead of Democratic incumbent Senator Thomas Burke by about 42,000 votes at 5 a.m. this morning. Democrats still predicted that later returns from the Cleveland area would win for Burke.
