Radcliffe Will Honor Eight At 75th Year Ceremonies

By Carlota G. Shipman

Radcliffe will formally mark its seventy-fifth anniversary this afternoon when the College awards citations of merit to eight distinguished alumnae. Ceremonies will start at 2:30 p.m. in Sanders Theatre. Radcliffe does not give honorary degrees.

President Pusey, Mrs. Ada C. Notestein, president emerita of Radcliffe, and Godfrey J. Cabot, honorary chairman, will speak at the exercises. Because of limited space, seniors and members of the Student Council are the only undergraduates invited to the ceremonies. The seniors will march in academic dress.

Sixteen hundred 'Cliffe alumnae are expected to attend the Sanders ceremonies, which are part of a two-day celebration of the college's 75th anniversary. Other events, planned to give alumnae a re-introduction to Radcliffe, include exhibitions, tours, and a Radcliffe Choral Society Harvard Glee Club concert tonight.

David Owen, professor of History, and Philippe LeCorboiller, professor of Applied Physics and General Education, will give sample lectures this afternoon before the citations are presented.

Josephine Hull '99 is among the Cliffe alumna who will receive citations. Other recipients are: Cecilia P. Gaposchkin '25, Phillips astronomer at Harvard; Doris z Stone '30, associate in Anthropology at Tulane University; Cornelia J. Cannon '99, teacher and author; and Marian Sharkey Doyle '14, past vice president of the League of women Voters and a past member of the National Loyalty review Board.

Mrs. Ada Notestein, president of Radcliffe 1923-43; Martha M. Eliot '13, head of the United States Children's Bureau; and Mabel W. Daniels '00, composer, will also get citations.

President Wilbur K. Jordan, who will award the citations, has summarized Radcliffe's history in his recent Report to the trustees.

Radcliffe's joint education plan with the University has been its most significant step.
