Six returning lettermen, two of last year's freshman standouts, and several other varsity hopefuls will leave tomorrow on the golf team's annual spring trip.

Led by number one man Ted Cooney, the team will practice for eight days at the Pinehurst Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C. After exhibition matches in the South, the team will return to Cambridge to start its season. This year's schedule includes four tournaments.

Besides Cooney, varsity lettermen Bruce Thurmond, Doug Boyd, Jim Jones, Pete Malkin, and Jack Brophy are making the trip. Brophy is the only senior on the squad, although Jim Hodder, who is also making the trip, may land a place on the team.

Last year's freshman captain, Dick Savrann, and number two man last year Bill McAllister, are traveling with Coach Josh Williams to Pinehurst Brock Stokes, freshman number one last year, is not making the trip and may not be able to play varsity golf this year.

Also With Team

Also with the squad at Pinehurst will be junior Kent Brown and a smal contingent of freshman hopefuls who are making the trip at their own expense. The freshmen will stay at Mid Pines, N.C.

The varsity will keep nine or ten men this year and seven will start matches.

With an experienced lineup, the varsity hopes to improve last year's respectable six won, three lost record. The team will play nine matches and a tenth may be scheduled. Last year, the team finished fourth in the Eastern Intercollegiate championships.

Captain Cooney, a former State Junior finalist, competed in the New England Amateurs last year and got to the semifinals.
