A Radcliffe freshman's case of poliomyelitis was called "the mildest possible" yesterday, but Annex health authorities have nevertheless given gamma globulin shots to 27 students as a precautionary measure.
Virginia Fincke, of Holmes Hall, entered the Radcliffe Health Center at noon Friday with symptoms of polio and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital that evening. Her case is the second to occur here this fall, Vernon B. Thomas '56 having contracted the disease on Sept. 28. His case was also non-paralytic.
Radcliffe plans no quarantine as a result of the polio case but will give gamma globulin shots today to any students who were in contact with Miss Fincke, Dr. Barbara Guard of the Health Center said last night.
