Smith Girls Search For Mountain Tops

It's back to the mountains for Smith women. By a 58-36 vote, the Smith College House of Representative has decided henceforth to restrict the annual "Mountain Day" exclusively to hikes and communion with local nature.

A new student resolution forbids Smith women from visiting men's colleges on the fall "Mountain Day." The Student Council, delegated to enact a positive plan of activities on mountain paths to replace the practice of spending the day on the roads toward men's schools, hopes the holiday will return to its original form.

To date, the Council has not selected a mountain.

The vote followed extended and deliberative discussion according to the Smith announcement. Smith established "Mountain Day" to give students a chance to get closer to get closer to nature.
