Tutors in Winthrop Hit Leverett Claim

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Winthrop House flatly rejected Leverett's claims to Gore Hall yesterday in a signed statement to the Leverett House Civic Improvement Society and the CRIMSON.

"This Leverett cry of 'Gore or War,' coming just a year after its last outbreak, must be a case of seasonal aggressions in the Hutch. The proposed tower, resting upon a feeble arch, would be as shaky as are these fabricated claims. Winthrop's Gore Hall will remain impervious even if the Leveretts, having tried in vain to beg or steal, return to element and burrow."

The letter was signed by Daniel S. Cheever '39, Alston Burr Senior Tutor at Winthrop, and James W. Fowle, assistant Senior Tutor.

Meanwhile, Leverett, reported that it is proceeding with plans to unite Gore, currently occupied by Winthrop with McKinlock of Leverett. The offices of the Civic Improvement Society in D-51 have been "besieged with petition signers," a spokesman said.
