Grays swept through the preliminaries of the freshman intramural swimming tournament last night to take nine positions for the finals.
Six men qualified for the finals in the 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, and the 200-yard freestyle. Finals for these events, and the preliminaries and finals for the diving, 150-yard medley relay, and the 200-yard freestyle relay will be hold at 7:30 tonight in the I.A.B.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Pote Zemo of Matthews North turned in two 25.3 second performances to head all qualifiers in that event. Bob Hultslander, who qualified in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles, also was the best performer in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 33 seconds. Fred Anderson of Thayer North was the only man to break three minutes in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:44.3.
