Crimson Quintet Favored to Defeat Weak Jumbo Basketball Contingent

The varsity basketball team stands as a definite favorite to win its second game of the season tonight, when it encounters a weak Tufts five at 8:30 in Medford.

Tufts has lost both of its contests up to now, one defeat being by 20 points to the University of Massachusetts. George "Woody" Trimshaw, Jumbo coach, said that his squad has practiced only since Thanksgiving, and requires more polish before it will attain top form.

The Crimson, too, has shown little so far. Despite its opening 61-37 victory over Wesleyan, Coach Floyd Wilson felt that much more could have been expected. For example, the field goal average was less than 30 percent even though most of the baskets were made within the keyhole.

The team that opened the Wesleyan game will start again tonight. Captain Ike Ganty will be at center, Monk Muncaster and Dick Woolston in the forward slots, and Bob Hastings and Dick Hurley at the guards.

Tufts will field a medium-sized five, with only one tall man. Center Peter Shaw at 6-6 will be the only Jumbo standing over 6-2. Captain Bert Munch and Ira Stepanian will play the guards and Phil Shaw and Robert Roy will be at the forwards.

Although the varsity has several advantages, in height, with a team capable of fielding three or four 6-4 men at once, and in experience, Wilson warned against overconfidence. "We have lost to Tufts the last two years," he said, "and everyone wants to beat Harvard."
