Trailing 6-4 in the seventh inning, the Yankees scored eight times and went on to crush the Red Sox, 17-8, last night at Fenway Park.

Stan Musial, the leading hitter in the National League, hit a two-run homer and youngster Lindy McDaniel hurled tight baseball as the St. Louis Cardinals dropped the Chicago Cubs last night, 6-2.

The Detroit Tigers broke a three-game losing streak with an 11-5 victory over the Cleveland Indians.
