House Booters Begin Campaign; All Teams Seem Equally Strong

An evenly matched slate of eight teams marked the start of the fourteen game House soccer race last week.

Eliot, heavily favored because of its 13-1 winning record of last year, has dropped one out of its first two games to Lowell, while the other Houses also compiled even records over the first week of play. No team can boast an unblemished slate.

Mike Kohler, captain and center half-back of the Elephants compares this early season loss to the one suffered last year to Winthrop. With an equally strong team behind him this year, however, Kohler feels only the need for a conclusive scoring punch to lift the team to undisputed first place.

Leverett House, with a 2-1 record, looms as one of Eliot's principle contenders for the honor of repesenting Harvard against the Elis late in November. Joe Pellegrino, Johann Moultebolum, and Nick Mace are the mainstays of the Bunny roster.

Meanwhile, unknown strength is lodged in Adams House. The Gold Coast eleven consists mainly of sophomores untried in intramural competition. Because of this it has been impossible to select the most valuable members of the team. High scorer for the House, however, is John Frith, who scored both goals against Leverett.

A dearth of returning players has made Winthrop the dark horse in the race. Poor attendance last year caused a lack of experienced talent, and the Puritans must base their hopes on the few remaining seniors left in the line-up.

Bob Hatfield, Lyman Wood, and Bill Stone appear as the main backers of Winthrop's attempt to regain the championship of two years ago.

Dunster also fields a strong team high-lighted by the play of Peng Sui-Mei and Bernard Gladieux. Finally, Dudley rarely fields a team and has thus not yet been evaluated.
