A marked increase in automobile ownership among resident students has boosted the University's total car registration to 1129, a new high for mid-October.
Over 970 resident undergraduates have listed automobiles with the University Police so far, as opposed to 917 on this date last year. The number of commuter-owned automobiles has declined.
Approximately 158 commuters have signed in cars. Although only 147 commuters registered at this time last year, at the end of October 1957, 229 had registered.
The decline in the number of commuter automobiles corresponds to a decrease in the number of non-resident students. As of Oct. 6, the 285 commuters constituted 6.2 per cent of the College enrollment, while 526 represented 11.5 per cent in 1957.
