Captain Nick Estabrook stretched a winning streak to five matches Saturday as the Crimson wrestling team scored a 19-9 victory over Dartmouth at the I.A.B. The Yardlings also won, by the same score.
The win gave the varsity a 2-3 record, with two-thirds of the season still to go. Dartmouth was the Crimson's first Ivy League opponent.
More than half the team entered the Dartmouth match overweight, due to a slack training pace during Reading Period. Ed Greitzer (123 pound class) and Paul Schnitz (177 pound class) were the only Crimson grapplers to weigh in at their normal level.
Wrestling in the 147 pound class, Estabrook pinned his opponent at 2:20. The only other pin was scored by Bob Kolodney (167 pound class) at 5:15.
Decisions were: Greitzer lost 3-0, Hal Pouser (130 pound class) lost 8-0, George Daub (137 pound class) won 4-0, Steven Astor (157 pound class) lost 5-2, Schnitz won 8-5, and Red Grant (unlimited class) won 4-2.
In the unlimited class, Grant faced a former Illinois state high school champion, Lou Bateman, and came from behind after trailing at the end of the first period, 2-0.
Kolodney, last year's Yardling wrestling captain, and Schnitz, who also did well in freshman competition, got their first wins of the season at the Dartmouth match.
