‘The Architect of the Whole Plan’: Harvard Law Graduate Ken Chesebro’s Path to Jan. 6
Just in case you happen to wander into the I.A.B. tonight, those big fellas aren't the Boston Celtics, they're the (choke) University of Connecticut basketball team and they're playing Harvard.
The evening should be an interesting, if not a particularly pleasant one for the squeamish in the group. UConn starts at center Ed Slomcenski, who towers 6 ft., 11 in. At forward the starters are Walt Griffin, 6 ft. 6 in., and Bob Haines, 6 ft. 7 in. The guards are closer to normal. Len Carlson and Andy Cxuchry are six feet even, but Carlson somehow managed to be highscorer with 22 points Saturday when the Huskies beat Yale, 82-64
A somewhat shaken scout who saw the U Conn-Yale game reports the Elis managed to stay in the game for the first half. They missed a few shots at the start of the second half, however, and UConn almost ran them off the floor.
Needless to say, the Crimson's main problem tonight will be rebounding. Coach Floyd Wilson said last night he was very pleased with his team's fast breaking against Williams Saturday, but such a style of play needs consistent rebounding to be effective.
Although he will start his regular five, Wilson will probably use Pete Kelley, Len Strauss, and sophomore Bob Inman frequently, since all three are good rebounders.
The starting lineup will incluude captain Gary Borchard and Denny Lynch at forwards, Bill Danner at center, and Joe Deering and Gene Augustine at guards. Wilson has special praise for Augustine, a junior who was severely handicapped by a broken wrist last season.
As for defending against the Huskies, the Crimson will stick with its new switching man-to-man. The defense worked well against Williams but collapsed when several players, especially Lynch and Bocrhard, got into trouble on fouls and had to play their men loosely.
