Harvard's fencing team faces Yale today in a last ditch battle to escape the Ivy League cellar. The contest at 2 p.m. in the I.A.B. is the final one this season and both teams go into it with identical 0-4 records.
Crimson coach Edo Marion predicts a Harvard victory, but says the squad will have to play "up to its potential."
The Crimson should garner most of its points in the sabre competition, where they are led by captain John Kennedy. Kennedy, who finished seventh in last year's NCAA tournament, is given strong support in this division by Paul Zygas and Roger Barzun.
Nick Spitzer in the epee and Dan Kirsch in the foil should also win valuable points for Harvard. Spitzer, particularly, has been outstanding in some matches this year.
Whatever the outcome of this afternoon's contest, coach Marion has bright hopes for next year. "Only three lettermen graduate and there is a fine crop of freshmen coming up," he says.
