Yale University early this week announced a raise in tuition for under-graduates which will be accompanied by an increase in the amount of funds available to students seeking financial help through scholarships and other sources.
Beginning with the September 1964 academic year, undergraduate tuition will rise to $1800 per year, an increase of $250 over the present charge.
A Yale spokesman emphasized that the increase in student aid is part of an attempt by the university to change its selection system to erase any limitations caused by the students' financial background.
The Yale Corporation has voted that undergraduate admissibility will be determined without regard to financial need, and has voted an increase of $400,000 in student help funds for the academic years 1964-65 and 1965-66.
Harvard recently decided to raise its undergraduate tuition to $1750, beginning in September, 1964.
