Israel Scheffler has been named the first Victor S. Thomas Professor of Education and Philosophy in the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Scheffler, formerly professor of Education and Philosophy, has been on the Faculties of Education and Arts and Sciences since 1952, and has been a professor since 1961. A specialist in the philosophy of education and science, he is the author of The Language of Education (1960) and The Anatomy of Inquiry: Philosophical Studies in the Theory of Science (1963).
The new chair was established with a bequest from Victor S. Thomas '05.
