Dunster Bunnies Share Top Spot In Grid League

Leverett's defense and Dunster's offense fought to a 0-0 tie last Monday night, leaving the outcome of the house tackle football championship still very much up in the air.

The latest standings show Leverett and Dunster in a tight struggle for first place, with the Bunnies from the Towers holding a half game lead with a 5-0-1 record, as opposed to 4-0-1 for the funsters. Winthrop has taken sole possession of third place with a 4-2 record, with Eliot a step behind at 3-2.

Kirkland is in fifth place at 4-3, and Dudley and Quincy are tied for sixth. Lowell and Adams have both yet to win a contest.

Leverett's Strength is Defense

Leverett's success to date has resulted from a strong defense that has kept its opponents scoreless. The Bunnies stingy defense has joined forces with an offense led by quarterback Harold Crevan who passes or runs with about equal effectiveness. Fullback Jeff Shelton and end Lee Patton lead in scoring.

A high spirited and spectacularly effective offensive attack led by sophomore quarterback Bill Law has rallied Dunster many times to maintain its present undefeated status. Yesterday's last second 20-13 victory over Kirkland House was by far the most exciting house football game of the season.

Winthrop has combined a good defense, anchored by a large, fast line, with a varied offense led by quarterback Mitch Sikora and halfback Rick Solomon. Junior fullback-coach Joel Strang, end Jeff Neal, and Solomon have shared scoring honors.

The Eliot line is hard to move, and averages about 210 pounds per man, outweighing the varsity. The backfield is also big, but lacks breakaway power. Quarterback Elliott Topkins has relied mainly on power plays around end and passes to huge 6 ft., 4 in., 215 pound ends Kurt Lemkau and Herb Hardt.

Kirkland a Disappointment

Kirkland's season has so far been a disappointment to the holders of last year's Straus Trophy for intramural supremacy. The offense has been steady and productive, with backs Joe Gavin, Howard Schechter, and Fred Golinko carrying the brunt of the ground attack for a team which prefers not to pass. A porous pass defense, as revealed in Dunster's aerial comeback last Monday night, has been the Achilles Heel for a team with a good line defense.

Dudley and Quincy both suffer from lack of depth, although the Quins have been severely hampered by the loss due to injury of ace quarterback Skip Falcone.

Dudley's strength lies in quarterback Brian Asher and co-captains Tack Chace and Bill Carnduff, who line up at tackle and halfback.

At the bottom of the standings, Lowell and Adams are both hampered by poor turnout, although the Bellboys have been crippled by injuries to three key players. Quarterback Mike Metcalf is relying solely on a passing game to move his team. Adams' Gold Coasters have been hampered by lack of both practices and enthusiasm
