Strong Foil Squad Leads Fencers In Match with CCNY Powerhouse

Encouraged by a total of five victories so far this fall, the Crimson fencing squad faces one of its cost crucial tests tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the IAB. City College of New York, probably the second best team in the nation, will be out to beat Harvard badly.

If he team can muster the strength to beat CCNY, it is likely to be considered one of the best in the United States and a prime contender for honors at the NCAA tournament at the University of Michigan later in the season.

The squad will enter the match with all but one of its ace performers prepared to defeat the New Yorkers. Rich Kolombatovich, normally number one man in the foil division, has been out of action because of a broken foot from basketball game.

Dave Dooley will move up to the first foil position, and he will be followed by Tom Musliner and Dan Issacson. Captain Jon Kolb will lead the sabre men, and he is expected to live up to his reputation for shrewd, fast fencing.

Kolb will be backed up by the number two sabre man, Paul Profeta. A former swimming candidate, Profeta has switched to fencing this year and has enjoyed a remarkably successful season, winning eight of his nine matches so far. Third man in the sabre will be Al Makattis, with sophomore Bob Damus on deck if he is needed.

Bill Neaves, who finished fourteenth in the Nationals last year, will lead the epee. He will be followed by junior Paul Mundie and senior Ken Brittan.

The only Crimson loss of this season was at the hands of a powerful N.Y.U. squad, a national leader. But CCNY, fresh from a 20-7 victory over a weak Yale team, will be looking to equal the N.Y.U. accomplishment.

Harvard victories over Holy Cross twice, Brandeis, M.L.T., and Bradford-Durfee, however, will endowed the team with a very high spirit, and they are determined to meet the highly competitive CCNY fencers head-on Saturday. The afternoon should provide some of the most exciting fencing at Harvard in some time.
