MDC Flushing River To Clear Out Debris

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Metropolitan Dirtrict Commission is currently pouring millions of gallons of water a day into the Charles River, in an attempt to improve objectionable conditions.

Due to the drought, the flow of the river has been so low dead fish and other debris have collected along the banks. There have been several complaints about this, and about the discolored water in the Charles.

Worthen H. Taylor, director of the MDC Division of Sanitary Engineering, explained that the water will be taken from the MDC reservoirs, under the provisions of Chapter 52, Acts of 1952.

Taylor reported that the water in the MDC reservoir is sufficient to meet the needs of its communities.

The water discharged will not exceed 500 million gallons, and the cost, not to exceed $5000, will be borne by Newton, Waltham, Cambridge, Boston, Wellesley, Weston and Watertown.
