Petitioners Want Rocky in Oregon

Over 500 Boston area students and faculty members have signed a petition encouraging New York Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller to enter the Oregon Presidential primary.

Students for Rockefeller a Harvard-based organization, circulated the petition last week in eight Boston calleges.

The campaign's director called in the petitions after only one week because of the "impending" nature of Rockefeller's candidacy. Leaders of the group think that Rockefeller will be in the race by Friday.

The group did not circulate the petition energetically at Harvard according to its director, Mare J. Glass, a first-year law student.

Approximately 925 undergraduates, 680 law students, 390 business students, and 360 Cliffies signed the petition.

The group provided assistance to a number of other movements to draft Rockefeller both in and out of Massachusetts. Movements as far away as Iowa contacted the Harvard group for advice and assistance, according to Glass.

The group has no future plans. Glass indicated that things will be "up in the air" until Rockefeller makes his expected declaration this week.
