Radcliffe Scholarship Head Quits To Take Dean's Job at Williams

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Director of Financial Aid at Radcliffe has resigned to become assistant dean of Women at Williams College next September.

Nancy J. McIntire, who has been in charge of scholarships at Radcliffe for the last five years, informed Mary I. Bunting, president of Radcliffe, of her decision last week, although she has not yet submitted a formal resignation.

She will continue working in her present post through the Spring term.

No Bad Taste

"I am not leaving Radcliffe because of anything I found distasteful with my present job." she said yesterday.

"I thought that the new opportunity was fascinating and that it was time that I got into other areas of educational work," she added.

Williams voted to go coed last year along with several other small New England, colleges including Wesleyan, Amherst, Bennington, and Yale.

Williams began accepting transfer students this year in an exchange program with nearby girl's colleges and will accept freshmen for the first time next Fall.

Miss McIntire said her new job will involve more counseling of students than her present post at Radcliffe.

No Successor Yet

Her successor will probably not be chosen until plans for the proposed Harvard-Radcliffe merger become more definite.

Williams offered Miss McIntire the post early October, although she didn't announce her decision until last week. Her appointment was confirmed by the Williams Board of Trustees at the end of January.
