Wrestling Coach Wins NWC 135-Pound Title

By R. W. D.

Harvard assistant wrestling coach Bob Fehrs defeated Bob Guzzo of Canton, N. Y., last week in Allentown, Pa., to become the first National Wrestling Confederation 135-pound champion. The win was worth a cool $1000.

Fehrs prevailed in an exhausting overtime period after he and Guzzo tied, 6-6, in regulation time. The man who defeated Fehrs three times in the NCAA finals while he was at Michigan, Mike Caruso, was content to watch the proceedings from the stands.

Fehrs was named the outstanding performer in the 20-man invitational tournament to add $500 to his $500 first prize money as class champion.
