Stickmen Host Princeton With Yet Another Goalie

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Injuries to both goalies have forced them out of action, and Kirby Wilcox, who started two years ago but did not come out this spring, will fill in when the Crimson lacrosse team battles Princeton at 2:30 p. m. today on the Business School field. The outcome is a tossup.

John Cosentino returned from Wednesday's game against Brown with injuries to his groin and knee, and is likely to miss the final three games of the season. Brian Landry, his replacement, injured his hand while making a pokecheck in the fourth quarter, and it swelled up so much that he cannot play today.

Coach Bruce Munro telephoned Wilcox Thursday morning and asked him if he'd be willing to help out. He agreed to, and then practiced Thursday and Friday.

One, Two, Three

Three things bother Wilcox about filling in: 1) the time commitment, 2) not being ready, and 3) playing ahead of Landry, who has been participating all season. "The second Brian can turn his wrist one degree, I'm getting out of that cage," he said Thursday.

Wilcox is not worried so much about reflexes, but about conditioning and clearing.

There is at least one consoling factor. "A goalie gets gun-shy after the first few days of hard shooting, but I don't think it'll bother me until after Saturday's game," he explained. "But it's tough to have to follow a good act," Wilcox added, referring to Cosentino's superb play at Brown.

I've Told Every Little Star

"I have tremendous faith in Kirby," said midfielder Bobby Johnson.

Wilcox still has wire in his shoulder because of the cromio-clavicular, separation he suffered in the Princeton game two years ago. He was checked while clearing by Bruce Wayne. "He was the only guy left, and I tried to go through him." Wilcox said.

There is another change in the defense. Don Gogel will not play because of a pulled calf muscle, so Bob Kettle will become the third starter, and Chris Doyle, usually a midfielder, will be the fourth man.

Princeton has been the disappointment of the league so far this year. AH-Ivy attackman Peter Johnson quit the team, and midfielder Keith Mauney cannot play because he signed a professional football contract. The Tigers have beaten Dartmouth and Penn, but lost to Brown.

Harvard had not beaten Princeton for 43 years until narrow victories the last two years.
