The Committee on Houses and Undergraduate Life (CHUL) has been considering proposals for the housing of the additional women who will be admitted under President Bok's plan to increase the Radcliffe enrollment.
Over the past three weeks the CHUL has discussed how to house the additional women who will enter in the Class of 1976 next Fall, and how to house the women who will enter in subsequent classes. Thomas C. Sterne '72. South House representative to the CHUL, said yesterday.
Jamie S. Gorelick '72, representative to the CHUL, said yesterday the basic issue was whether to house freshman women with freshman men, or with Harvard and Radcliffe upperclassmen.
The increase of students for next year is not large enough to require additional buildings, but after next year another building must be acquired or built. Dean Epps said Monday.
Approximately 120 women will be added to the Class of 1976, and between 50 or 60 men will be cut from it. Epps said the Yard dorms could accomodate this increase of 60 or 70 students.
Two Committees
The Executive Committee of the CHUL has been dealing with proposals for next year, while the subcommittee on Co-Residential Living Arrangements has been considering long-range plans.
The committees are considering a range of proposals:
*to keep all freshmen women at Radcliffe, with upperclassmen living at Radcliffe moving in to the Houses.
*to put around 100 freshmen women in the Yard, with the freshmen men.
*to place some freshmen--men, women or both--into Harvard Houses.
*to mix freshmen men and women together in the Yard and in a separate Radcliffe House.
*to put the additional freshmen women into the Harvard Houses.
