Paul Couming, who had taken sanctuary on Monday from three charges of draft violation, was arrested yesterday at 6:45 a. m. by three Federal marshalls in the Paulist Center in Boston.
After the arrest, Judge Charles E. Wyzanski '27 set bail at $10,000 and a new trial date for next Tuesday morning. Couming's father said last night that his son will await trial in Dedham prison.
When Couming finally does come to trial on Tuesday, he will face charges of non-possession of both his Selective Service registration and classification cards.
The third charge from which he had bought sanctuary, leaving the service assigned to him for conscientious objection, was dropped on Tuesday, "on the motion of the U. S. government," according to Wyzanski.
Couming, who was asleep when the marshalls entered, "is feeling fine and is happy as a lark," according to his father. The 70-year-old janitor added that Couming wanted the bail money to be raised, "not for his own use, but for the movement."
