Stickmen to Host Williams As Brown Match Nears

By Bennett H. Beach

The varsity lacrosse team faces Williams at 2 p.m. today on the Business School Field in a warmup for Wednesday's important game against Brown.

The Crimson must beat the Bruins to earn the District I spot in the NCAA playoffs. Right now Brown is ranked first in New England, while Harvard is third.

Of course, Williams may provide more of a challenge than usual. Harvard barely beat UMass, 7-6, Wednesday, and the Redmen are supposed to be only slightly better than Williams.

Harvard and Williams have had one common opponent, Rutgers. The Crimson edged Rutgers in overtime, 8-7, while the Ephmen suffered a 13-5 defeat.

Williams has the momentum, though. After losses to Baltimore and Rutgers, the Ephmen routed three opponents-M.I.T. (12-5), Colgate (8-1) and Dartmouth (8-2). Since crushing Penn, 13-3, the Crimson has lost to Cornell and then looked mediocre in the win over UMass.

Break Out Spark

If Harvard breaks out of its lethargy, the spark may come from sophomore John Hagerty, who will start in place of Steve Milliken. Hagerty was moved from attack to midfield this year, but asked to be an attackman again, and Wednesday, Munro used him extensively during the second half. He scored two goals, including the winner.

He will be shooting at the pride and joy of the Williams team-freshman goalie Matt Levine. In five games he has made 91 saves for an impressive .777 percentage.

If Harvard plays. well enough, goalie John Cosentino may get some rest while sophomore Joe. Walker fills in for him.
