Bud Wilson Elected Track Captain

Twenty-One Trackmen to Compete in England

By E. J. Dionne

Bud Wilson is the track team's new captain.

A junior from Pacific Palisades. California, he was elected by his teammates on Tuesday.

"It's an honor and it entails quite a bit of responsibility." Wilson said last night. "Since track is such an individual sport. it's a tough task to get everybody to work together as a unit. We want to generate a lot of team feeling."

"It added another dimension to the thing," he said, "when coach McCurdy suggested that I bring back a large bottle of aspirin."

One of Wilson's roommates is Tommy Paul, recently elected captain of the hockey team. "Last night we were sitting around trying to figure out what to do with our other roommate," Wilson said.

The team also announced the membership of the joint Harvard-Yale squad which will travel to England next month for the Oxford-Cambridge meet.

As originally planned, the team will consist of the top two scorers-freshman or varsity-in each event in the Harvard-Yale meet.

There was some speculation that the coaches would depart from this method. Harvard's head coach Bill McCurdy discussed the selection of the team with his Yale counterpart Bob Giegengack after the Heptagonals meet in Pailadelphia last Saturday. After some discussion, they decided to stick to the original method.

Twenty-one of the 31 team members are from Harvard. Except for the long jump and the pole vault, the Crimson will have representatives in every event.

The team will include four Harvard freshmen: Leon Sharpe in the triple jump. Austin O'Connor in the 220, Nick Leone in the 440, and Dick Gilbane in the discus.

The Harvard members of the team and their events are:

Javelin: Richie Szaro and Bill Pade
